2015 Presidents Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony
Broadfield Hotel, Rochdale was the host location of the 2015 Rochdale Company of Archers Presidents Dinner Dance and Awards Ceremony. The ceremony was very well attended by members past and present and great fun was had by all. Sadly the weather was atrocious but as this was an indoor event the usual archer-grumbling was noticeably absent.
Our Master of Ceremonies for the evening; Chairman, Martin Poole was very comfortable with a microphone in his hand, and Karen Naylor delivered an exceptional speech and lead the toast to the club and to Queen Elizabeth II, The Duke of Lancaster.
There were some surprises in the awards presentation, beginning with a very special award for one of our most special members; Margaret Smith, who was awarded with a trophy dedicated in her name and made from a kettle that she donated to the club close to 30 years ago – a good-natured, light-hearted award which very aptly represents long service from a beloved and indispensible member of our club.
When all the awards were presented, there was little left to do but got through the usual stretches and clingy-band warm-ups and hit the dance floor. If there were awards for this part of the evening, it would have definitely required a shoot-off between the Reader Girls and Richard ‘night-fever’ Kearns (don’t think we’re going to fall for that ‘bad back’ story again Rick!)
A huge thanks to all those who helped to organise and run the event, to all the members who attended and made the evening hugely enjoyable, and a very special thanks to our 2015 President: Jayne Coward, a worthy President of our esteemed club.
See you next year, Happy Shooting!
